Say No to Low Back Pain!
Today I did a Facebook live testimonial on how a fellow practice member is getting relief from her low back pain. You don’t have to live life with low back pain. Low back pain is one of the most common reasons for physician visits in the US and the most common treat is pain medication.
Studies are showing now that pain medication isn’t the best defense for fighting low back pain. The American College of Physicians has developed a guideline on noninvasive treatment of low back pain based on 150 studies. The specific depend on the type and duration of back pain.
Did I just say that NSAIDs don’t work well for back pain?? Yes I did!
Medications tend to have temporary benefits, so it makes sense to try a new method.
The new guidelines recommended for acute back pain is: Heat, Massage, Chiropractic care, Acupuncture
For chronic low back pain: Chiropractic care, Exercise, Yoga, Acupuncture, Tai chi.
It is recommended that these noninvasive methods should be tried before moving to medications. But it is important to remember that no one treatment works for everyone. Instead, finding relief from your lower back pain is often a process of trial and error.
